Highlights by Year

A chronological tour of our most-read pieces and defining moments.

2009–2011

The Early Years

The archive opens with a series of Scottish field notes: ravens on sea cliffs, hooded crows at rubbish tips, and jackdaws raiding a Highland nest box. The tone is personal and the observations are intimate.

2012–2014

Growing Wider

Guest writers arrive. Our most-shared piece of this era — Tool Use in New Caledonian Crows: A Review — was the first to blend formal literature review with accessible prose, setting the tone for the site going forward.

2015–2018

Cognition & Care

The Cognition Corner series launches, covering facial recognition in jackdaws, cooperative problem-solving in rooks, and the cultural transmission of caching behaviour in ravens. Simultaneously our care guides expand into a full rehabilitation resource.

2019–2022

Community Voice

Reader-contributed stories flood in. Members share lockdown corvid encounters, garden-camera footage, and a memorable series on urban magpies adapting to closed-circuit TV mounts. The photo gallery receives over 3,000 community submissions.

2023–Present

Refinement & Depth

Longer, research-driven features dominate: a three-part investigation into chough reintroduction on the Lleyn Peninsula, a statistical review of raven population trends in upland Wales, and an essay comparing corvid folklore across Celtic cultures.

Each theme links back to the original articles in full — nothing is paywalled or locked away. We believe corvid knowledge should be free and open.
